A survey of the country’s strongest metro areas has put Oklahoma’s two largest cities in the spotlight.
Oklahoma City is ranked third and Tulsa is seventh in a BusinessWeek report on the country’s 40 strongest metro areas. The report stated that the country’s strongest economies shared one thing: home prices that never got too high or too low.
The report citied Oklahoma City as an oil and natural gas center that is home to Devon Energy and Chesapeake Energy. Gross metropolitan product in the second quarter was down just 0.8% from a peak in 2008’s fourth quarter. It also stated that home prices grew 2.3% in the second quarter compared with the same period a year earlier.
The report listed Oklahoma City’s unemployment rate in June at 6.6%, up from 4.5% a year earlier.
